Our History

The North Fort Myers Fire District was organized in 1948 by seven volunteers. Today the fire department consists of four fire stations. Each station has an engine and a rescue truck. We also have two brush trucks.

We are an independent fire district within Lee County. Our boundaries are the Caloosahatchee River to the south, Lee/Charlotte county line to the north, Cape Coral to the west, and basically the railroad tracks or I-75 to the east. We have a population of over 50,000 residents.

It is the duty of this fire department to save lives and reduce injuries and property losses when fire occurs. The Fire Suppression/Rescue Division operates 24 hours a day with 19 employees on shift, providing fire suppression, vehicle extrication, emergency medical services and operational level water rescue and hazardous materials response. The department has State of Florida certified Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics serving as first responders providing the finest in emergency medical care.

The Fire Prevention Division provides services in an effort to reduce the incidence of injuries, death, and property loss attributed to fire. Responsibilities include, fire inspections, building plans and systems engineering review, public education, and information through presentations and life safety programs.

Fire administration is managed by the Fire Chief with support personnel operating all divisions within the fire department. Revenue for the operation of the department is generated from ad valorum tax overseen by five elected Fire Commissioners.
